VW Jetta, Starter Problems
Q: A couple of days ago,
my '87 VW Jetta would not start (sometimes) it would just make a clicking
noise. I thought the battery might be going bad, so I replaced it. I then
changed the starter motor. It started right up. The next day, the same
problem. I can push start it fine, but I can't jump start it with jumper
cables. Any ideas?
A: Check
your battery cables. Pay particular attention to the battery cable from
the negative side of the battery to the engine. The battery cables on
your VW are notorious for corrosion and connection problems that will
create the condition you describe.
