‘95 Ford F-150, No Fuel Switch
Q:
I have a ‘95 Ford F-150 with duel tanks. I tried to start the truck but it wouldn’t start. I switched to the rear tank and it started right up. I switched back to the front tank and it died right out.

That’s a simple one; the front fuel tank’s fuel pump is not working. Your vehicle has a fuel pump in each fuel tank. The switch on the dash that allows you to select which tank to use fuel from is also directing electricity to the appropriate fuel pump. The switch also directs the appropriate fuel level sensor reading to the gas gauge. The diagnosis is pretty straight forward. The technician has to check for the presence of electrical power to the front gas tank when the switch/command is made and to check the condition of the ground for the pump. This is all performed at the same connector. If power is present and the ground is good, it is likely that the fuel pump has failed. To replace the fuel pump requires unbolting the gas tank to lower it to allow for access to the pump assembly.
