Jim Grant's Tech Tips '97 Ford F150, Door Ajar Switch Q: I have a 97 Ford F150 3 door pick-up. The door ajar and outside cargo light stays on even after the vehicle is turned off and keys have been removed. Im assuming that it is the door switch that is causing the problem, but I cant find the switch. Where the heck is the door switch located? - Joe S. A: In the doors of course. The door ajar switch on your vehicle is inside the door, mounted on the door latch assembly. These switches are a common problem. To replace them requires removing the door panel and in some causes unbolting the door latch to gain access to the switch. I would not suggest trying to service/clean them, just install new switches. It is too much work for the little money the replacement switches cost. Not to mention how frustrated youll be if they still stick after you get the door back together. There is one other catch. The only way youll know for certain, which door switch is the problem before you start is a with a computer scan tool. When we replace the door ajar switches, our suggestion is to replace them all at once. You may want to do the same.
