'98 Ford Taurus, Check Engine Light
Q:
My
98 Ford Taurus has a check engine light that the technician says
the code reads crankshaft sensor. The sensor was replaced and the light
came back on. They guaranteed it was the computer, the computer was replaced
and the light came back on. They guaranteed it was the wires between the
crankshaft sensor and computer. They were replaced and the light came
back on. Any suggestions, the car has been in the shop over 6 weeks.

A:
It
would be helpful if you provided the computer codes, not just the description.
Why? There are about a half dozen computer codes related to the crankshaft
position sensor, but the problem gets better. Some of the crankshaft position
sensor codes have not a thing to do with the crankshaft sensor itself.
In fact, with a couple of the codes you could replace computers, sensors
and wiring, as many times as you want and it will not correct the problem.
The tech could have bad diagnostic information that is misleading or they
do not have a handle on your computer system. The guarantee youre
getting is great, but it would be better to have your vehicle back.
