'94 Ford F150, No Wet Start
Q:
My 94 Ford F150
pickup starts good except when it's damp out, raining or snowing. It acts
like it is flooding, but has spark. You can smell gas after awhile. What
is going on?

A:
There is a difference
between having spark and the spark getting to where it has to be. If a
vehicle has wet weather running problems it is likely an ignition system
problem that is causing it. Because the engine starts you know there is
spark, but weak ignition system components allow spark to wander and travel
to places other than the spark plugs. Moisture is a great enticer of spark
wander, on weak ignition systems. A closer inspection will likely prove
that your Ford just needs some new ignition components to drive in the
rain.
