'99 Ford Taurus, Gas Hog
Q:
I have
a '99 Ford Taurus SE 3.0 engine and I was wondering how many miles per
gallon I'm suppose to be getting? Right now I'm at 12 miles per gallon
is that normal?

A:
My
GMC Suburban does better than that plowing snow. You bet you've got problems.
Does the engine feel like it is running okay? You know, smooth without
bucking or hesitation? If the engine is running okay, then what is your
temperature gauge reading? Low coolant temperature, due to a failing or
failed coolant thermostat, will cause the computer to provide much more
fuel than the engine needs. It is much the same as driving an old carbureted
vehicle and forgetting to push the choke in. The engine will just drink
gas like it's 29 cent a gallon.
