'97 Dodge Caravan, Electronic Fuel Injection Enhancer
Q:
I recently
bought an EFIE (Electronic Fuel Injection Enhancer)from Eagle-Research.
The EFIE allows you to apply an offset to the voltage coming from the
oxygen sensor, so your vehicle's computer is completely unaware that the
oxygen content of the exhaust has increased. See their website: However
my local mechanic does not know how to wire it into the computer of my
'97 Dodge Caravan 3.0L Van. Can you help?
A:
I did
a little checking on the gizmo you want to install on your vehicle. First,
if your mechanic installs the device he/she could be breaking state and
federal law! Why? No where could I find that the product had Federal or
California emissions certification. A mechanic or technician installing
such a device is lining himself/herself up for a fine that starts in the
area of 25g's. All it is going to take is one government type with a hot
pepper in the wrong place to make an example of such person. Altering
the oxygen sensor value is no big deal and has been used as a diagnostic
tool for many years. As for altering the sensor value to improve gas mileage
I wouldn't bet much on it. If the company has such a good product why
have they not submitted it for testing? Oh they make great claims, but
if their product worked so well they would be rich, retired and not wasting
any time with a darn website! Why? Any one of a dozen vehicle manufacturers
would have bought them out and mass produced and installed said such product
on their vehicles. Until I see dyno and emission testing information in
grams per-mile, don't ask to sell or install such a device . Also I found
the websites reference on how to "Reverse your Electric Meter, Legally"
and the 72 hour Disaster Survival Kit with Step-by-step instructions for
becoming crisis ready about as useful as a can of instant water.
