'97 Dodge Neon,
Fan Runs All The Time
Q: My
daughter has a 97 Dodge Neon. When she parked the car the radiator
cooling fan ran continuously until a battery terminal was removed. Restarting
the car and shutting it off did not help. Is there a sensor in the radiator
or a fan motor relay that could be bad?.....Bill
A:
Yes there is a cooling fan relay that, if failing, would keep the cooling
fan on until the battery went dead or was disconnected. The cooling fan
relay is mounted in the Power Distribution Center in the engine compartment.
The location of the fan relay is marked on the cover. Also note that ALLDATA
Information Systems shows Technical Service Bulletin # 07-04-98 addressing
an update for the cooling fan relay. On some vehicles the cooling fan
would operate continuously or not at all. The fix was a replacement fan
relay and jumper wire with a diode to be installed in the fan circuit
to provide protection from voltage spikes.
